Meet Your CloudFest 2021 Moderators

Expertise in art and science—and on a mission to rock you.

As CloudFest moves to a digital venue for its 2021 festival, we’re shaking up the presentation style! Say auf wedersehen to PowerPoint and hallo to fast-paced, exciting conversations. We’ve found ways to bring our sense of adventure to this new format, and our moderation team is an early indicator of what you can expect. (Spoiler alert: expect the unexpected!)

Our core team of moderators all come to the Cloud from different backgrounds and perspectives to help our guest speakers deliver their very best. Their expertise ranges from managed hosting and trend analysis to art and whisky. Time to meet them:

Dr. Christian Boeing, former CEO of Strato AG & Deputy CMO of 1&1 IONOS
Most recently serving as CEO of Strato and Deputy CMO of 1&1 IONOS, Christian is an inspiring and passionate leader with a long track record of value creation by delivering creative organic growth initiatives, M&A, efficiency programs, and turnaround management.

Christian Dawson, co-founder of Open-i Advisors, Inc. and co-founder and Executive Director of the i2Coalition
As an entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience building multiple businesses, he has a background in developing business models, go-to-market strategies and marketing campaigns. Christian excels at walking companies through the process of finding and actualizing their goals—developing mission and vision statements, performing SWOT analyses, and other business exercises designed to put businesses on the path to success.

Jeff Hardy, founder of Art of the Message
As the Chief Strategist at Art of the Message, Jeff deploys his deep technical experience and training to help companies get their story straight — developing strong, strategic messaging and content that cuts through the ever-increasing barrage of noise.

Philbert Shih, founder and Managing Director of Structure Research
Philbert Shih has covered the infrastructure services space for 20 years. He is the founder and managing director of Structure Research, an independent research and consulting firm devoted to the cloud and data centre infrastructure services markets with a specialization in the hyperscale value chain. Shih is a regular speaker at industry events and has been quoted in publications worldwide, from the South China Morning Post and the Globe and Mail to Forbes.

Claudia van Veen, actor, Singer, and pro moderator
Claudia is no stranger to the stage, with a multinational, multilingual career spanning the worlds of events and theatre. When she grabs the mic, she takes audiences on amazing journeys. Some of you will have also seen her singing with the Lords of Uptime during CloudFest.

Soeren von Varchmin, CEO of CloudFest and NamesCon
We’re pretty sure you already know this guy, right? From building virtual machines to providing top-level business intelligence, Soeren is decades deep in the cloud computing industry. Maintaining several board positions and thousands of C-suite contacts, he is an investor, business development expert, philanthropist, and guitarist with the Lords of Uptime.

Jordan Yerman, Senior Copywriter for CloudFest
Jordan’s work in the travel and tech industries helps businesses explain what they do to people who don’t know what Kubernetes is. Besides his work for CloudFest, Jordan has worked, presented, and created in a dozen countries; and his AI-collaborative artwork has been published multiple times in the International Symposium on Electronic Art. He’s also a photographer, distance runner, and very-slowly-emerging guitarist.

Keep your ear to the ground (and on our newsletter and social media channels) for further updates: we’ll be introducing some guest moderators as well… and wait ’til you find out about our special guest speakers! That’s coming soon…
